Coast Guard Auxiliary
offers Boating Course
to help save lives
Each year,
approximately 700 Americans loose their lives in boating accidents.
Statistics have indicated that those boaters who have completed a boating
safety class are far less likely to become a boating fatality statistic. In
fact, USCG statistics show that 80 percent of the fatalities in boating
accidents had no formal boating safety education.
In an
effort to equip boaters with the necessary skills to minimize the chance of
them becoming a statistic, the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, Flotilla 33, will
be holding a Boating Skills & Seamanship class, beginning Tuesday
March 25th, from 7:00-9:00 PM, at the
Citrus Heights
Community
Church at 7405 Mariposa Avenue in
Citrus Heights..
Classes run from 7:00 to 9:00 PM each Tuesday evening through May 6th.
The
course, taught by qualified volunteers from the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary,
is comprehensive in nature, and will benefit the novice boater as well as
experienced skipper. Topics include: selecting the right boat, required
safety equipment, trailering your boat, boat handling, highway signs of the
waterways, rules of the road, inland boating, and boating emergencies. The
cost for the course is $60. Discounts are available for couples or groups.
Pre-registration is required.
